Sonya Barbosa was born in Boston, MA on September 11,1990 and was raised in Brockton, MA. She moved to Central Falls, RI when she was 13 years old. Having attended Central Falls high School she graduated in 2008 and went on to pursue a college career at the New England Institute of Art in Boston for digital Film. She then transferred to Rhode Island College for a degree in Mass Media Comm. Sonya joined the Central Falls Alumni board in 2014 where she assisted with fundraising for Central Falls high school seniors. At the same time Sonya was doing multiple community service acts by access of The New Life Church CoolJc where she served as a Choir member singing at nursing homes under the directorship of Elder Jermaine Curtis.  She assisted with Church clean ups and Dorcas visits amongst many others. In 2016 Sonya became a business owner when she founded Minas Cleaning Service. At the time she only had one consist client. To date she is servicing multiple clients in the Massachusetts and Rhode Island. In 2019 Sonya became a Board member for MADD Providence where she helps to assist families who have been affect by drunk driving and to build awareness around the organization. Sonya has a strong passion for radio and has co-hosted for several years with The Ladies Lounge via online podcasts where she goes by her street name “Pookie”.
