This year marks the fifth year of Rhode Island’s #1 Youth Summit #YESpvd! (formally TURNUPRI). The 2019 Fall edition of the youth summit is a free one-day culturally competent career exploration, entrepreneurship, empowerment and leadership conference for Rhode Island middle and high school students ages 13-18. The summit will be hosted on Monday, October 14th, 2019 the Indigenous Peoples’ Day (Columbus Day) holiday, hosted at Dr Jorge Alvarez High School in Providence thanks to The Providence Public School District (PPSD). It is made possible thanks to our partners: Community Action Partnership of Providence (CAPP) our fiscal sponsor, the Providence Public Library (PPL), the Rhode Island Foundation (RIF), the Rhode Island Department of Education (RIDE), the Rhode Island Department of Labor & Training (RIDLT) and the Rhode Island Department of Health’s Health Equity Institute (RIDOH). The summit’s theme for 2019-2020 is “Diversity Inclusion and Belonging”. To make this year another huge success, we would love to have your support in any one of the variety of ways to support.

Last year in 2018 our keynote speaker was Providence native Mike Holston aka The Real Tarzann the instagram phenom with over 5.5 million followers who travels the world featuring exoctic animals and teaching today’s youth on why we need to be considerate of animals and how humans affect them.

At the 2017 Summit, thanks to our amazing supporters and sponsors, we were able to bring New York Times Bestselling Author and brand influencer, Luvvie Ajayi. Her words about the power of social media and the career pathways that were available to her because of the opportunities she was provided is the reason why this Summit exists. It is our hope to continue to bring powerful and influential people like Luvvie to Rhode Island to inspire our young people…and you can help make that possible this year!

In an effort to align statewide efforts in youth development and career pathways, the Summit’s workshops are based on a mixture of identified emerging industries in Rhode Island and by a statewide youth survey. Workshops topics have included: How to Get to Medical School, The Path to Law School, Cybersecurity, Youth Organizing, Run for Public Office, Fashion Design and Careers in Advance Manufacturing…just to name a few! This year we added an Entrepreneurship pathway to the Summit for those who may choose a career in this field. PLUS a Pitch Challenge for high school students with two rounds.

Each year, the Summit provided over 300+ young people an opportunity of a lifetime to spark interest in career fields they may not have otherwise considered. The previous years we were able to award a few $1000 in college scholarships to college-bound seniors! With your support, we can offer more scholarships and continue to expand our impact on Rhode Island’s diverse population of young people.

Please consider to start of continue supporting the Summit and be a part of the excitement!
